A CLARIFICATION FOR THOSE WHO TOOK UP ISSUE WITH OUR RED HERRING ARTICLE OF MUFTI EBRAHIM DESAI SAHEB- YOU MISSED THE POINT

We are reluctant to release this as Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb is not well. But it seems many do not understand what we have put out in our “Red Hering” article, and have taken up issue with the article.

So we want to clarify the matter from our side. For brevity we will focus on one point in this clarification.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai’s publication of the notice which happens to be on the board of Musjidul Fuqara in P.E displays a subjective attitude.
That notice had/has no relationship with the criticism made by The Majlis or us.
The Majlis merely drew attention to the conflict in the fatwas of Mufti Ebrahim Desai. In 2014, he had attributed the stance of Hadhrat Muaaz Bin Jabal (Radhiyallahu anhu) to Imaan and Yaqeen, but today he has an opposite view. We (Qalamul Haq and other groups such as Ask Gora Mata, South Africa Muslims who agreed with us) have also pointed out the same before The Majlis had done so.

The Majlis was not claiming to have a high level of Imaan and Yaqeen. It only explained the change in the stance of Mufti Ebrahim Desai. Same as we had, but in a different way.
The notice on the Masjid’s notice board has no relationship with this issue. The fact that Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb had made it an issue of the notice leads to us the conclusion that he has spies/informers/mpimmis in Port Elizabeth to keep him informed of issues related to Maulana A.S.Desai (The Majlis) to enable him to use as ammunition to personally criticize him. We did not mention this in our main article/response.

It is not correct for a Mufti who operates a Darul Ifta and who teaches Ifta students, to adopt subjective stances. A Mufti should be objective and concentrate on the facts and respond with dalaa-il, and refrain from exercises in scoring points over those whom he believes are his opponents. We (Qalamul Haq) have made it clear that any and all of our criticisms of any Aalim, organisation, layperson etc is a Deeni issue and not Nafsaani.

So whether The Majlis has Yaqeen or not is not the issue. The issue which the Majlis discussed was a grave discrepancy of Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb. We (and others) asked the question, and Majlis pointed out the same, in that he should have only explained the change in his attitude which produced a change of fatwas. Going into so many other matters as we (Qalamul Haq) pointed out just confused the matter even further from Mufti Saheb’s responses.

We hope this clarifies this matter. Those who have issues with The Majlis should take it up with Majlis and not with us. You are welcome to take up issue with or engage us privately.
