REGARDING THE INTERFAITH PRAYERS THAT JAMIAT SOUTH AFRICA ATTENDED

QUESTION
Assalaamualaikum, what is the Status of interfaith gatherings and prayers, the likes of which Jamiatul Ulama South Africa attended?
ANSWER
Bismihi Ta`ala
Haamidan wa Musalliyan
Respected Brother / Sister in Islam
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh
It is not permissible to attend such a gathering. A disbeliever is one who earns the wrath and curse of Allah Ta`ala. Hence, how do you expect his prayer (dua) to be accepted? Further, his presence will be an obstacle for the acceptance of dua.
Secondly, it is obvious that the disbeliever will implore his false gods when praying. Hence, the Muslim who is present will be a silent partner to this act of shirk and kufr. Today he is imploring his false god in the presence of the gathering and tomorrow he could bring his idol along and worship it while all the attendees are viewing him. Thirdly, attending such a gathering is tacit approval of the evil that is being committed, which then creates the impression that all religions are equal and correct.
Allah Ta`ala instructs us in the Quraan Shareef:
وَذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ لَعِبًا وَلَهْوًا
- Leave alone those who take their religion as a sport and an amusment.
وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى عَسَىٰٓ أَلَّآ أَكُونَ بِدُعَآءِ رَبِّى شَقِيًّا -
I will part from you and that which you call upon, apart from God; I will call upon my Lord, and hopefully I shall not be, in calling upon my Lord, unprosperous
.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ عَدُوِّى وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ تُلْقُونَ إِلَيْهِم بِٱلْمَوَدَّةِ وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْحَقِّ
- O you who believe, take not My enemy and your enemy for friends, offering them love, whereas they have
disbelieved in the truth that has come to you.
قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ -
You have had a perfect example in
Ebrahim (alaihis salaam), and those with him, when they said to their people, "We are free from you and that which you worship, apart from Allah Ta`ala. We disbelieve in you, and between us and you enmity has shown itself, and hatred for ever, until you all believe in Allah alone.
