SANCTITY OF THE MASJID
SANCTITY OF THE MASJID

The Masjid is from amongst the symbols of Allah e and should always be honoured and revered. Allah e states, “Whoever honours the landmarks (distinctive signs) of Allah, then this is because of the Taqwa of hearts.”

Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have said, “Save yourselves from the commotion of the market places (in the Masjid.) [Re:- Baihaqi]
The commentators of Hadith have written that one should refrain from mixing with others in the Masjid as mixing takes place in the market places. Similarly one should refrain from arguing, raising the voice, being noisy, etc. in the Masjid.

The Masjid enjoys such sanctity that one is not even permitted to announce a lost item in the Masjid, nor trade in the Masjid or engage in conversations.
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radialla Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have said, “Whoever hears a person announcing a lost item in the Masjid then he should say, “May Allah e not return it to you for verily the Masjid has not been built for this purpose.”

In another narration Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have said, “If you see a person buying and selling in the Masjid then say, May Allah e not grant profit in your business.” [Re:- Tirmidhi]

Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have said, “Talking in the Masjid consumes good deeds just as animals consume grass.” [Re:- Roohul Maa’ani] The above narration refers to permissible talks, what do you then think about Haraam and impermissible talks?
