EXPOSING FAULTS OF ANYONE TO SAVE THE PEOPLE FROM FITNAH IS NOT GHEEBAH
EXPOSING FAULTS OF ANYONE TO SAVE THE PEOPLE FROM FITNAH IS NOT GHEEBAH

Muhammed bin Abi khalaf rahmatullahi alaih once reports that,
We were in the esteemed presence of Ibn Ulaiya Rahimahullah when suddenly a man came and enquired regarding taking knowledge from layth bin Abi sulaym, so some of the people in the gathering responded,
"And what are you even doing attempting to aquire Hadith from layth when he is weak in the science of narrating? Why don't you enquire regarding acquiring and narrating hadith from Ayub rahmatullahi,”
So the man responded:
"SubhaanahAllah! You making gheeba of the Ulama?!”
To which Ibn Ulaiya rahimahullah responded:
“This is Amaana(a trust which we have to preserve and fulfill) not gheeba, Oh ignorant one.”

It is also reported that:
Hafiz Ibn Rajab rahmatullahi alaih is quoted in the sharah of the ilalit Tirmidhi as saying:
"Some people who are void of true knowledge have the misconception that these type of statements or expositions are a form of gheeba whereas it is not so, for verily if the mentioning of a fault of a man when its danger is restricted to him like him not being worthy of giving testimony in the context of false witness is permissible without any doubt and with consensus, then when the danger is general for all Mu’mineen it should be even more so.”
